This volume, second of a two-volume reader in modern Hebrew literature containing 30 units with selections from modern classical literature assumes the student's mastery of the basic elements of Hebrew grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. The selections are largely representative of the period prior to 1948, the date of the establishment of the State of Israel, and range from the writings of Mendele M. Sefarim to H. Hazaz. Major emphasis in the series is placed upon development of vocabulary and appreciation of style. This volume contains explanatory notes and vocabulary notes for the readings.
